Happy 4th of July

Now I  know you don’t come to a writing blog to discuss Father’s Day and the Fourth of July. I promise to have more writing based post coming soon. Honest

I am a father and I am a patriot. I think being a patriot is a good quality to have for someone who is active duty in the military. Right?

I will keep this short. I want to head out to the bay to watch fireworks. Now, for most people in San Diego the best way to accomplish this is to leave in the morning and spend all day at the beach and then hang out till the fireworks start.

Not this guy! If I spent all day at the beach I would be burnt to a crisp! Don’t get me wrong. I love the ocean and playing in the surf, however my complexion makes it an activity I can only handle in small doses. In an effort to save future generations from such suffering,I chose a spouse with noticeably darker complexion with the resulting children of our sporting beautiful golden tans most of the year. I watch them with pride and envy from beneath my huge wide brimmed hat while I reapply +200 sunscreen to all my exposed flesh.

But I digress. We are going to my job site on the bay. They are allowing families on base to hang out and watch the fireworks. Now, we still need to get there a good four hours before sunset, but that I can do.

In typical San Diego fashion I plan on picking up some In-n-Out burgers on the way and eat that deliciousness on a blanket in the grass as we wait for the festivities to begin.

I love my country. The natural beauty of this vast land is amazing! The people and our history is remarkable as well. I truly believe we are a blessed country. I am very thankful to live here and proud to be able to serve.

Our politics can be frustrating, but I always remember the quote attributed to Winston Churchill-

Americans can always be counted on to do the right thing…after they have exhausted all other possibilities.

Today dwell on all the good we have done as a nation. Put the politics on the back burner. The intrigue and conspiracy theories can wait. Today celebrate the good, the beautiful, the brave and selfless in this country.

God bless America!
